Three-month internship working as a staff photographer with the Miami Herald. Two to three assignments a day, five-days a week, from sports and news to fashion, portraits, arts, business, and features. Occasional shooting and production of short news or feature videos. Experience working in newsroom environment, crafting new story ideas, working with reporters on assignments. Some photos republished widely, including The New York Times, Macleans, The Charlotte Observer, and more. Three 1A photos to date.

Freelance photographer, Metro New York Oct. 2009-Sept. 2010
Worked day shifts and single assignments for Metro, a free newspaper with a daily circulation of 600,000 copies. Assignments vary widely from spot and general news to features and portraits. Recent assignments have included covering City Hall and Mayor Bloomberg, a feature story on new amusement park development in Coney Island, the city’s preparations for large snowstorms, press conferences, breaking news, sports and portraits. Six cover photos.

Pieces have focused on indigenous struggles in Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico and in Colombia; immigrant issues in New York City and Montreal; genetically-modified corn in Mexico; and textile maquiladoras in southern Mexico. Story on land struggle in Brazil for CounterPunch. A recent article published on Alternet about a Queens anarchist under investigation by a federal grand jury. An essay on aboriginal radio included in a recent book on pirate radio in Canada.

Hosted and engineered live weekly Spanish language news/feature program. Produced news highlights, prerecorded news reports and conducted live on-air interviews in Spanish.
